Golfers have their choice of several golf ball varieties produced by numerous brands. However, all golf balls have similar construction components which include an inner core, an outer cover, and exterior dimples.

The inner core of a golf ball, which can be highly or lowly compressed, helps to support the transfer of energy that takes place when impacted by a golf swing. Balls that are lowly compressed help to maximize shot distance. The outer cover of golf balls provides protection and shot control, and can be composed of Surlyn or urethane. Lastly, dimples are present to help make the ball more aerodynamic. As the ball flies through the air, the dimples help to increase lift and minimize drag.
